The Cannabis Control Commission announced Friday, November 16, 2018 that two retail recreational marijuana establishments could begin adult-use operations in Massachusetts. The two pot shops, Cultivate Holdings, LLC of Leicester and New England Treatment Access, LLC of Northhampton, can begin selling pot and other marijuana products.

User Responsibilities

Commission Chairman Steven J. Hoffman expressed that the initiative to open retail marijuana establishments “marks a major milestone for voters who approved legal, adult-use cannabis in our state.” He also encourages Massachusetts adult-users to consume responsibly and be familiar with the law. To become informed about the effects or marijuana and the basics of the Massachusetts law, the public is encouraged to visit www.mass.gov.

Pot Shop Safety

Recreational marijuana was legalized in Massachusetts back in 2016. After two years of thorough background checks, multiple inspections, and numerous product tests, licensees are now able to sell their marijuana and other products to the community. Hoffman assured Massachusetts residents that these steps were taken to “ensure public health and safety as this new industry gets up and running.”

Marijuana Resources

The Commission partnered with the Department of Public Health to provide content on youth prevention strategies, as well as consumers’ rights and obligations. The Commission’s website also offers more information about the establishments that will soon be operating in Massachusetts.
