Respirator Fit Testing

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires employees who work in a hazardous environment (environments with harmful dusts, fumes, gases, etc.) to wear respirators. These respirators protect the wearer against toxic atmospheres, allowing them to breathe with reduced exposure to respirable toxins. However for yours or your employees’ respirators to be most effective, a Respirator Fit Test is necessary to ensure proper fit and function while in use.

A Fit Test tests the seal between the respirator’s face piece and your face. This ensures the effectiveness of the respirator. Fit testing is not only required by OSHA, but keeps your employees safe from contaminants produced in their work environment. The respirators only work if the intended protection is verified.

OccuMed can conduct fit tests in one of two ways:

Quantitative Fit Test

Qualitative Fit Test

Using state-of-the-art machinery, PortaCount, OccuMed can perform Quantitative Fit Testing to ensure your respirator fits properly and is effective and takes only fifteen to twenty minutes to complete.

Based on the user’s sense of taste and smell, OccuMed’s Qualitative Fit Test uses a spray or smoke solution within your covering to test the effectiveness of your respirator’s seal while conducting a variety of exercises.

Currently, all testing services are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please call us directly at 877.399.1698 or fill out the for below
